Seasons for Growth
Warkworth parish offers a ministry for those suffering from grief and loss through Seasons for Growth.
Seasons is a non-religious peer-support programme for people who have experienced a major loss in their lives. For children, parents and teens, groups are run both in schools. They are nine weeks in length and are free.
For adults, there is a six week course run at regular intervals.
Life Threatening Illness is an additional programme offered for those young people living with a sick parent or sibling. There is no charge for this programme. It is offered on an ad hoc basis, in response to need.
An activities programme for retired senior people, which meets Mondays at the Warkworth Parish Hall, 9:30am - 12:00 midday. Cost is $3.00. All are welcome to come along for a morning of fun and fitness. New members are always welcome. For more information, please contact Bridget, 425 8054.
The Selwyn Day Centre at Christ Church Warkworth started a few years ago with funding from the Selwyn Foundation, encouragement from the parish and the efforts of volunteers. Today there is on average 25+ attendees each week. These are mostly from the community. The group has become a hive of activity and has definitely filled a niche in the community. It offers a programme of sit down exercises, morning teas, games and socials every Monday from 9.30-12noon.
Benefits and Impact:
For the Community: Especially for the elderly who are living alone, there is a lot of sharing of information at the Group. This often reduces the fear of the unknown and helps them feel connected to the community. For the attendees: The Group is very much a social hub – it is a place where they can come together, feel accepted and informed. There is sense that many have come out of themselves and blossomed. The sit down exercises and games are fun and enhance flexibility / mobility.
For the workers: Leadership and team working skills are being developed (a big factor for the group’s success). Another development has been the sense of being fruitful in Ministry (they consider the work as unto God). The workers enjoy what they do and freely volunteer their time. The buzz and energy of the team is most apparent.
For the Church: The effort expended has been greatly exceeded by the benefits reaped!
If you wish to place a request for prayer for yourself or others on the prayer chain, please ring Mary Starr on 425 5664. All prayers are confidential.
Warkworth Christian Foodlink foodbank
Every year over 100,000 food parcels are distributed to families in need in New Zealand. Warkworth Christian Foodlink, operated from the Mahurangi Presbytarian Church, 5 Pulham Road, Warkworth (425-8861), the WCF provides food parcels to individuals and families in the area that may be struggling to put the basic essentials on the table.
Like all foodbanks in New Zealand, they are also struggling to meet demand. We are seeking donations from caring New Zealanders to help the Warkworth Christian Foodlink replenish their grocery supplies and help them continue the great work they do in the community.

Traditional parish visiting was the prerogative of the clergy, now many parishes have teams of lay pastoral visitors.
Visitors look after the sick and housebound parishioners, offering personal visits. The parishioners have an opportunity for a chat and have someone to pray with. If you would like to join the pastoral care team, or would like a visit, contact the co-ordinators, Daphne Cocker, Claire Oaks and Marie Ellis, or the office.
The Rev and other clergy in the parish also undertake pastoral visits, both by request and, as their time allows, to all within the parish.
